More than 92,000 kms with 17 bike routes across Europe. This is what the EuroVelo map looks like in 2024.

Looking to travel sustainably this year while enjoying the sights and sounds along the way? The EuroVelo bike routes give you the perfect opportunity to do so!

EuroVelo is the European cycle route network — 17 long-distance cycle routes that cross and connect the entire continent. The EuroVelo initiative is the largest cycle route network of its kind in the world. It currently spans across 38 countries, and the number is expected to reach 42.

Discover six of those routes here:

1. The Atlantic Coast route: Norway, UK, Republic of Ireland, France, Spain, Portugal.
10,650 km. 14 UNESCO sites. 6 countries.

From Scandinavia to South and Western Portugal, the Atlantic Coast Route offers you the chance to enjoy the majestic fjords of Norway, the wild Irish coastline, the rough cliffs of Brittany and the sun-kissed beaches of Portugal.

Along the way you will discover bustling port cities, cosy fishing villages and dramatic landscapes.

2. Via Romea (Francigena): UK, France, Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany, Switzerland, Italy.
3,250 km long, 21 UNESCO sites, 7 countries.

The route passes through seven different countries. It offers you the chance to visit modern institutions or enjoy historic monuments, and many museums. You can also visit us — European Commission in Brussels, or our colleagues in the Court of Justice of the European Union in Luxembourg or in the European Parliament in Strasbourg. Remember to say Hi! if you pass by!

3. Mediterranean Route: Spain, France, Italy, Slovenia, Croatia, Montenegro, Albania, Greece, Türkiye, Cyprus.
7,350 km long, 23 UNESCO sites, 10 countries.

This route takes you on an unforgettable journey along the stunning Mediterranean Sea. From the picturesque beach towns of Spain, to the enchanting island of Cyprus, this route has its unique charm.

You will explore different countries, France, Italy, Slovenia, Croatia, Montenegro, Albania, Greece, and Türkiye, each offering unique landscapes and rich cultural heritage.

4. Rhine Cycle Route: Switzerland, Germany, France, The Netherlands.
1,450 km long. 9 UNESCO sites. 4 countries visited.

Suitable for cyclists of all fitness levels and abilities, the Rhine Cycle Route runs along one of the longest rivers in Europe from the Swiss Alps to the North Sea. Explore the beauty of this river landscape and the picturesque towns and villages lining its banks.

5. Atlantic-Black Sea Route: France, Switzerland, Germany, Austria, Slovakia, Hungary, Croatia, Serbia, Romania, Bulgaria.
4,700 km long. 11 UNESCO sites. 10 countries.

This route takes you through several European capitals — Vienna, Bratislava and Budapest — and some of the prettiest fairy-tale towns you could imagine. You travel through some staggering national parks and on most days, you would be cycling alongside rivers, amidst meadows, and through colourful villages.

6. East Europe Route: Norway, Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, Serbia, Republic of North Macedonia, Greece.
6,750 km long. 11 countries .

This is a lengthy route stretching from the north-east tip of Norway all the way down to sunny Greece. It will lead you through six capital cities: Helsinki, Vilnius, Warsaw, Belgrade, Skopje, up to Athens. Give it a go and discover your new favourite destination!

We have supported various EuroVelo initiatives through the European Regional Development Fund (a key instrument for our cohesion policy), designed to strengthen economic, social and territorial cohesion in the European Union.

We have also been funding the development of cycling infrastructure over the years and have planned investments of €4.5 billion under the 2021–2027 EU cohesion policy funding period to improve cycling infrastructure across Europe
